چکیده
Currently, thirty-eight palladium, thirty-eight antimony, thirty-nine tellurium, thirty-eight iodine, and forty xenon isotopes have been observed and the discovery of these isotopes is discussed here. For each isotope a brief synopsis of the first refereed publication, including the production and identification method, is presented. ∗Corresponding author. Email address: [email protected] (M. UWFDM-1139 Safety Assessment of the Protective Gases Used in IFE Chambers
Using xenon as a fill gas in IFE chambers results in generating a large amount of radioactive xenon, iodine, and cesium isotopes. The cesium isotopes, Cs and Cs, and the iodine isotope, I, would produce a high level of off-site dose (62.13 rem) at the plant site boundary if they were released entirely to the environment during an accident. The xenon gas is pumped out of the chamber (recycled) d...
متن کاملThe xenon record of extinct radioactivities in the Earth.
Analyses of xenon from well gas rich in carbon dioxide reveal a large excess of radiogenic xenon-129 from the decay of extinct iodine-129. Smaller excesses observed in the heavy xenon isotopes are from fission. These results place narrow limits on any age difference between the earth and the oldest meteorites. The occurrence of excess radiogenic xenon-129 in well gas also suggests that any quan...
متن کاملXenon Isotopes in Nanodiamonds and Other Presolar Grains
Introduction: Nanodiamonds isolated from primitive meteorites contain isotopically ‘normal’ Xe-P3 and components enriched in heavy and light isotopes Xe-HL, exotic Xe-P6. Excesses of Xe from I decay are also observed [1]. We discuss these in the light of data obtained from size-separated Efremovka nanodiamond samples produced at the Vernadsky Institute, Moscow [2]. Results: Excess Xe is present...
متن کاملComputer simulation techniques to design Xenon-124 solid target for iodine-123 production
Background: Iodine-123 (123I) is regarded as one of the best radionuclides for in vivo medical studies using single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) due to its suitable physical property. Materials and Methods: To design a new system in order to replace cryogenically solidified xenon target by the gas one, some necessary calculations are needed to be done such as finding the excitati...
متن کاملCalculation of beta absorbed fractions for iodine isotopes in ellipsoidal thyroid lobe
Background: The thyroid gland absorbs nearly all the iodine in the blood, independently of its isotopic composition. When a large enough activity of radioactive iodine like 131I, 132I, 133I is taken into the body, it can destroy the healthy thyroid gland cells as well as the cancer’s cells. In fact, as it is well known, some isotopes of iodine are used not only for acquiring thyroid image...
